Let’s be honest, people suck. But, not all people. And when people are doing what’s right, having a good attitude, or just being good people, we should recognize them. And that’s what the Tango Yankee Project aims to do.
By recognizing those who are doing good things, through the Tango Yankee Project, we can tell people, “what you’re doing in this life matters.” And in a time when our flaws often outshine the good we do, it’s nice to feel like what you’re doing still matters.
Tango Yankee
If you didn’t know, Tango Yankee is radio etiquette for thank you, which is where the name of the Tango Yankee Project came from.
What started out as a veteran trying to recognize other veterans has now turned into something much bigger. Because it doesn’t matter who you are, it’s nice to be recognized for doing good things. Which is what the Tango Yankee Project hopes to create, by moving from the veteran community, to all communities.
Action for the common good and an attitude of gratitude: is there really a downside to either?
Tango Yankee Chips and Patches
How do these chips work, you ask?
It probably helps to give you a little back story on that as well. In the military, we collect coins. Coins are given out by Commanders, Chiefs, typically the higher-ranking folks. When you get a coin, it’s leadership saying, “Hey, we recognize that you’re doing good stuff out there, keep it up!”
All you need are these: certainty of judgment in the present moment; action for the common good in the present moment; and an attitude of gratitude in the present moment for anything that comes your way. ~Marcus Aurelius, Meditations, 9.6
These chips—patches too—developed for the Tango Yankee Project, mimic this same type of recognition. It’s a way of recognizing or acknowledging other people doing what’s right.
You never know someone is going through. But giving them one of these chips or patches can show them you recognize what they’re doing, and it matters. And that my friend, might just make their day. It also might make the world a little bit better.
You’re walking around with two chips in your pocket as you look for someone behaving in a way that deserves one, while you behave in a way that is deserving of the chips you carry. It’s magical.
